Dear Diary....

Well its official - I'm off to a horrible blogging start. ha I guess I should have warned you all that this might happen... on second thought I'm probably the only person reading this! I'm having flash backs to when I used to try and keep a diary as a kid - every one I tried would have about 20 entries in it for the year and every third one would start "sorry its been so long diary". BUT I am back and going to give this a real attempt!

Its been an interesting week I started classes again on Monday [really the only thing good about that is it means I'm that much closer to being done] but it is a change of schedule and change is always welcome in my book. I was back on Columbia's campus this week and reminded again about how much I do NOT fit in at art school! Don't get me wrong I get along great with everyone I meet and there are some very fun and cool people, but I am so far from "artsy" and "hipster" its ridiculous. I have to admit its fun though always something crazy going on and people watching on campus is like nothing you've ever seen - or maybe you have if you hangout in Wicker Park or 624 S Michigan. Another positive about this semester is I spent less than $100 on books! And that NEVER happened at Northern - perk of art school is everything is "hands on" and "real world" so fewer books!

I did however still do damage in the bookstore because they have an awesome selection of non-school books. So now my reading list is piling up! Right now I'm reading a book called "Room" by Emma Donoghue and was immediately hooked. Its kind of hard to explain but its told from a 5 year old boy's [Jack] perspective and he lives in Room with his Ma. I believe its sort sort of loosely based off of that horrific story about the man that kept his daughter locked in a room for 20-some years of her life and she had a child with him... because all Jack knows is Room and Bed and Lamp and Skylight. It's very interesting because he is a child as well as so sheltered so the language is very different. It is a lot about the relationship between Ma and Jack and the love between a mother and child. I'm assuming in no time at all I'll be crying - I'll let you know.

Well I have a feeling most of my posts will be like this... after I've laid in bed for a good hour NOT falling asleep I'll decide to turn my computer on and hopefully empty some of the clutter built up in my head and then maybe, just maybe fall asleep... so until the next time!
